How Basal Body Temperature Tracking Works

Basal body temperature (BBT) is the body’s lowest resting temperature, measured immediately after waking and before any physical activity. Under the influence of progesterone, BBT rises by approximately 0.2–0.5°C following ovulation and remains elevated until the next menstrual period. By tracking this daily temperature pattern over several cycles, it becomes possible to identify the post-ovulatory temperature rise and retrospectively confirm when ovulation occurred. Over time and with the help of the Ovy app, patterns can be used to predict the fertile window in advance.

Usage Instructions

1. Download the free Ovy app (iOS or Android) and create an account. Set up your preferred measurement location (oral or vaginal) in the app.
2. Measure at the same time every morning, immediately upon waking and before getting up, eating, drinking, or any physical activity.
3. Insert the flexible tip under the tongue (oral) or vaginally to the preferred depth. Hold in position.
4. The LED ring illuminates during measurement. An acoustic signal after 3 minutes confirms the reading is complete.
5. The highest temperature measured is saved to the device’s 30-space memory and displayed on the LCD.
6. Open the Ovy app and activate Bluetooth. Transfer readings wirelessly to the app, which updates your cycle chart automatically.
