The On Call® Extra Blood Glucose Monitoring System is a feature-rich, no-coding glucometer from ACON Laboratories designed for fast and accurate self-monitoring of blood glucose at home. Requiring only 0.4 µL of blood and delivering plasma-equivalent results in just 4 seconds, it is among the fastest and most accessible systems available for everyday diabetes management.
The meter stores 500 test results with date and time stamps and automatically calculates 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90-day averages — providing a comprehensive picture of blood glucose trends over time. Smart alerts include hypo, hyper, and ketone alarms, as well as test reminders to support consistent monitoring routines. Audible fill detection confirms when sufficient blood has been applied, minimising wasted strips.
A large bold-number display (31 × 34mm) ensures results are easy to read, and a built-in strip ejector allows hygienic, touchless disposal of used strips. The system meets ISO 15197:2015 accuracy standards and is compatible with the On Call® Diabetes Management Software for data download and long-term tracking.

Usage Instructions
- Insert an On Call Extra test strip into the meter — it powers on automatically and auto-codes.
- Wash and dry hands. Use a lancing device to obtain 0.4 µL of blood from the fingertip, forearm, or palm.
- Touch the edge of the blood drop to the sample tip of the test strip. The meter beeps when sufficient blood has been absorbed.
- Wait 4 seconds for the blood glucose reading to appear on the display.
- Use the strip ejector button to dispose of the used strip hygienically.
- Record or review your reading in the meter memory or via the On Call software.
Storage and Maintenance
- Store in a cool, dry place between 5°C and 45°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Do not submerge in water — wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth.
- Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears.
- Store test strips in their original container with the cap sealed tightly.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Warnings and Precautions
- For in vitro diagnostic use only — external blood glucose testing only.
- Use only On Call Extra test strips. Other strips will give inaccurate results.
- Do not use expired test strips.
- Dispose of used lancets in a puncture-resistant sharps container.
- Hypo, hyper, and ketone alarms are awareness alerts only — consult your healthcare professional for guidance on target ranges and treatment.
- Always consult a healthcare professional to interpret readings and manage blood glucose.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the On Call Extra require a code chip?
No. Unlike the On Call EZ II which uses a Code 690 chip, the On Call Extra uses auto-calibration circuitry built into every test strip. Simply insert the strip and the meter calibrates itself automatically — no chip required.
How fast does the On Call Extra give results?
Results appear in 4 seconds after sufficient blood is applied — one of the fastest result times available for a home glucometer.
What does the audible fill detection do?
The meter beeps when it detects that sufficient blood (0.4 µL) has been absorbed by the strip. This prevents under-sampling errors and reduces the chance of wasting a strip due to an insufficient sample.
How many readings does the meter store?
The On Call Extra stores up to 500 test results, each with date and time stamps. It also automatically calculates 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90-day averages for long-term glucose trend monitoring.
What are the hypo and hyper alarms?
The meter can be programmed to alert you when a reading falls below the low threshold (hypoglycaemia) or exceeds the high threshold (hyperglycaemia). These are awareness alerts — always follow your healthcare provider’s guidance for managing out-of-range readings.
Is this meter compatible with diabetes management software?
Yes. The On Call Extra is compatible with On Call® Diabetes Management Software, which allows you to download and analyse your glucose data on a computer for long-term tracking and reporting.
